A King Worshipped

A KING WORSHIPPED

Out of my way
You other stars
One star only… my eyes strain for seeing.
One light only… I search for following.
One path, not another, this night.
For it is as much about things I abandon
And that would be all.
The entirety of myself, I neglect and heed no other call
The enterprise of me, let it sink to the weeds.
I’ll wade ashore for Him, where it leads to Him.

Won’t you speak His Name?
Him. The King.

He might not be much to look at, but He’s everything I came to see.
He might not have many suitors. That’s fine, for now, with me.
Out of my way, you others stars.
Slide down off the sky. Gather to the sides.
Call yourself Red and part like the sea.
I’ve got a King in my sights. A King who finds me! Are you so blind?
Minds find their purpose in ranging for Him.
Ears and hands too. Legs, of course, run.
No part of me… is not part of seeking Him.
No part of me… is not built and aching to bow to The One and Only! Him.

Out of my way
You idols and devils, silver and gold, death and life and endless stories that don’t need to be told. Step Aside. Or join me.
He is better than you and better than me. He makes everything new.
He breaks these chains. He puts out fires of personal hell.
He is bigger than anything He does for me… or me… or me.
He could heal my body and mind… or not… stop every war… inspire more art and music galore… or call an end to it all, an end to all time, fold up all history… into a drawer, under a shelf, down the hall.
He is Alpha Amazing, Omega Omniscient.
All Power Creative. All Mercy and Mission of Love and Right Life.
The Truth paving ways from away to together
for every family and wayward brother and sister.
Out of my way.

Where can I go? Who would I worship?
Him. The King.

What’s that ahead?
No glory at all that my flesh would record.
No appearance to pull me, no lesser reward.

Are those shepherds I smell?

Are those angels I hear?

Is that glory that shines?

Is this My King? Could it be?

Let me get… out of the way …
and listen with you
to what the angel would say…

“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

(Luke 2:10-14 ESV)

We were all made to worship… the One made to rule…

Our Lord, the King is here. All obstacles, out of the way!
Valleys up! Mountains down! Prepare… the way… of the Lord.
Out of His way.

(This is the 2nd of 2 “spoken word” pieces I presented Friday night at our church. Thanks!)
